You can’t miss it – it’s all over the news, the big debt ceiling debate in the United States.  Special interest groups are all lobbying to have their interests protected in the agreement being hammered out the halls of Congress.  The media is full of doomsday predictions of what will happen if an agreement is not finished in time, and the United States starts defaulting on its obligations.

Now Is The Time

Dave Ramsey says it’s time for people to fix their own economy, one family at a time.  We have begun to think of the government as our hope and provider, instead of recognizing only God brings prosperity to the people, and is the author of all our hope.  It’s time for The Great Recovery to spread across America and the world.

If you did not see the live simulcast of Dave Ramsey’s kickoff for The Great Recovery, you can watch it here.   I will highlight the best points for you.

We must understand real change starts with individuals.  Individuals make up the economy, millions of them!  If we fix the individuals and families, we will fix the economy.  It’s time to get up and do something, not just pray about it!

We have put ourselves in the position we are now in.  We have not been managing our money God’s way.  If you don’t handle your money the way God intended you to, you will fail 100% of the time.

The Big Vision

Can you imagine what would happen if your family, your church, your community, your state, and entire nation would handle money God’s way?  Here’s what would happen.  Debt would go down.  Savings would go way up.  Unethical businesses would have no customers, and would close.  Employers would treat employees like family.  Hope comes back.  Marriages would be saved!

Here’s more of what would happen.  Debt free, hopeful people give more.  God’s kingdom is glorified.  Managing our money God’s way will bring revival.  The economy is fixed, one family at a time.  There is a vacuum in our marketplace, and we need to boldly step in!

So what do we need to do?  We need to take action now.  Our churches need to step up and lead the way.  Stop allowing your church to be a victim of hopeless giving!   Broke people can not help other people.

Churches need to facilitate financial education classes to teach people how to manage their money God’s way.  Churches need to be unafraid to preach what God’s word says, and rest on God’s authority.  There are many good programs out there like Financial Peace University to help God’s people get out of bondage to debt.

Recovery Starts With You

Pamela, you and Dave are so right. We all need to take more control over our own finances to help put this nation back on track.

This is so true Pamela, if we all stepped up and took responsibility for our own financial education… it would certainly create a powerful ripple effect across the nations. We often forget that even though individually we may be but a droplet of water, working together towards a common goal we become an ocean capable of creating a tsunami.

I wish there was a must read button because this is a must read. You are dead on in this article. To many complaining about the government, the economy and their employer’s. Blaming everyone besides themselves for their current financial troubles.
It’s way past time for personal accountability and until we acknowledge that, there will continue to be weeping and gnashing of teeth, that’s God’s word!
